How do I download the app?

The St John's app is available for free on the Apple App Store for iOS devices and Google Play Store for Android devices. Simply search for "St John's" or use the download links on our homepage.

Do I need to create an account to use the app?

Not for most things. You can read the verse of the day, browse events, announcements and resources, order food or coffee, donate, and ask the AI assistant a question without signing in. Signing in is optional and uses your Google account. It is needed for venue bookings and their updates, for saving your AI conversations across devices, and for church team members using the admin tools.

What does the AI assistant do with my questions?

Your question, the recent messages in the conversation and the church documents used to answer it are sent to OpenAI, which writes the reply. OpenAI does not train its models on this. If you are not signed in, your conversations stay on your phone and are never stored on our servers. If you are signed in, they are saved to your account and you can delete any conversation from the app. The assistant can be wrong, so please check anything important with the parish office, and speak with a priest about anything pastoral.

How do I report a bad answer from the AI assistant?

Tap the report button under the answer and pick a reason. We receive your question, the answer, the few messages just before them and anything you type in the note box. Nothing else from your chat is sent, and the report does not carry your name or account.

How do I view church events?

Open the app and navigate to the Home tab. You'll see upcoming events displayed in the carousel and the Current Event section. Tap on any event to see more details.

How do I access church resources?

Tap on the Resources tab at the bottom of the app. You can browse categories like Books and Kids Sunday School. Tap on any folder to explore its contents, and tap on files to view or download them.

How do I read announcements?

Go to the Community Corner tab to see all church announcements. You can filter announcements by 'This Week' or 'This Month' to find recent updates. Pull down to refresh and load the latest announcements.

How do I order food from Shepherd's Table?

Tap on the Food tab to access Shepherd's Table. Browse the menu, add items to your order, and follow the checkout process. Food ordering is available during designated service times.

How do I make a donation?

From the Home screen, tap the 'Donate' button. Payments are handled securely by Stripe, and you can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Enter your name and email if you would like a receipt.

The app is running slowly or crashing

Try these steps: 1) Close the app completely and reopen it. 2) Ensure you have a stable internet connection. 3) Update to the latest version of the app from the App Store or Google Play. 4) Restart your device. If issues persist, please contact us.

I can't see any events or announcements

This usually means there's a connection issue. Check your internet connection and try pulling down to refresh the content. If the problem persists, try closing and reopening the app.

How do I update the app?

On iOS, open the App Store, go to your profile, and check for updates. On Android, open Google Play Store, go to 'My apps & games', and update the St John's app if an update is available.

The St John's app is designed with your privacy in mind:

Signing in is optional: most of the app works without an account. Signing in uses Google and unlocks bookings and saved AI conversations
Minimal data collection: we only collect what a feature actually needs, when you use it
No tracking: the app carries no advertising or analytics software, and we never sell your information
Secure payments: donations, orders and bookings are processed by Stripe. Card details never reach our servers
AI chat: guest conversations stay on your phone. Signed-in conversations are saved to your account and you can delete them
